JanBook 3 of 52—Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult
light read. reading her books is a challenge because I like to read the endings first, and work my way back through the story. I am not much of a mystery person; I really don’t like suspense.
A novel about what a mother will do for her children and/or for herself to keep her chlidren. There is a question as to whether the mother’s actions were more for her benefit or her daughter’s. I have not resolved it yet. Initially I thought the mother was doing it to protect her daughter, but near the end of the book she talks about not being able to handle losing her last child, and had she not done what she did, that is exactly what would have happened. Yeah, so I am left with an uneasiness about her motives. As a parent, I walk a fine line between protecting my kids for their own sake or keeping them close to me for my benefit. Am I making this choice because it (whatever it may be) will harm them without my intervention, or am I choosing this path to keep them closer to me without regard for their needs/feelings/wants?
