    one thing

today’s one thing was to take our clothes to House by the Side of the Road, an organization that gives clothes to people in our county who need them. As long as they have a referral, they can shop for what they need. The kids both had winter coats that were still in very good shape, so I hope someone will be a little warmer this winter.

I struggle constantly with the amount of stuff we donate. It feels shameful, somehow, to have so much that we are always donating. I know some of it is that the kids are growing and each season we need to start over, but even taking that into consideration, we still have way too much. I think I will learn to use what we have more efficiently and fully instead of having so many options. This will work best with me and Sasha because that is where I have the most control. It will also mean doing laundry more frequently, so that doesn’t become an excuse for why we need MORE.

Part of the reason for my shopping trip last night was to find new pants. I have 4 pairs of cords that I wear all the time. After 2 months of constant wear, I was starting to get sick of them. But, really, why do I need another pair of pants? The ones I have are comfortable, they fit nicely, they are in good shape. In fact, I have pants in my closet that I don’t wear because they don’t meet those criteria. Actually, I think it’s time to get rid of them so that someone else may actually use them.
