Jancounting blessings
There have been all sorts of small miracles this week that I was fortunate enough to recognize as such. They made my life smoother and more pleasant, and allowed me to move forward with my goals.
1. S went happily to Child Watch at the Y after a two week absence and a two week residence on the island of Mama.
2. The evidence of Mickey and Minnie caused me to clean my kitchen cupboards, leading to a major disposal of expired, fragrance-free spices.
3. A friend offered to bring M home from dance so I was able to continue my cleaning. During that time, S fell asleep so I could clean with both hands.
4. On Wednesdays, the morning Child Watch staff also works the evening, so S was able to ‘play with friends’ while I watched M play basketball.
5. S has taken good naps this week, allowing me to get stuff done. She has also needed me for part of them, forcing me to rest and get ready for the afternoon.
Becoming mindful of my life allows me to see both the miracles that regularly occur and the silver linings in the challenges and frustrations. Today, being mindful meant that I could accept my sadness and tearfulness, while recognizing that I don’t have to (and shouldn’t) impose it on others through my actions and behaviors, i.e. being frustrated with the kids because I am not feeling my best.
My motto for the year is, “Act. Don’t React.”
